Klipsch Bookshelf

best speaker placement in new room?
Just got a new room and I’m looking to set up my speakers so I can listen to music, use as tv surround sound and such.
The room is larger than average, 32×12. The tv will be in the corner
I have a pair of Klipsch Bookshelf speakers
http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/vb-15-overview/
and an older, larger set of floor speakers that would provide more bass(or so i think)
Should I put the older speakers behind the couches and the smaller Bookshelf Speakers on the sides?
I don’t think I’ll be using the built in speakers in the tv, but they’re an option
this is the general layout of the room, a very rough sketch. I’d like to be able to enjoy music/tv from both the bed and couch.

Is the ceiling vaulted upstairs? Or is it a flat ceiling, this matters greatly. I would suggest that you definitely do not place your speakers behind the couch. This would do nothing to your sound quality. Before I attempt to answer your speaker placement question, remember the importance of speaker stands. It would be nice if you can get stands that are shaped like a capital H. They tilt up at a slight angle elevating the speaker to position sound more towards the air, less towards the ground. I would think it to not be ideal to place speakers near your windows. Windows don’t help sound. If the ceiling is flat, it wouldn’t hurt to mount the small book shelf speakers at a somewhat tilted angle on across from the couch with each side facing the couch. They can be positioned outside of the width of the floor speakers. You may have to eyeball it for a balanced look. This could be ideal, but wiring is the challenge if mounted on the ceiling. The older floor speakers would sound better from the front of the TV instead of the couch, speakers need room to express themselves next to the couch cramps their audio style and projects sound away from the listener. If you can get a balanced sound with the Klipsch somewhere in front of the viewer keeping the floor speakers on the speaker stands that would be optimal.
If you ever had a water nozzle at the end of a water hose, when you twist it the water has a fine mist spray, a conical spray that wets the area. Your speakers will have a sonic dispersion however sharp, much like a spray, a mist from a water nozzle. All of them will overlap and provide a sound stage in the room. It is for these reasons I recommend the Klipsh if feasible mounted on the ceiling, and he floor standing speakers tilted towards the air for the general layout of your room.
Best.
